Holly & Peter – A Cosy Somerset Wedding by Candlelight
Some weddings stay with you because of how they feel.
Holly and Peter’s winter wedding at North Cadbury Court was one of those days calm, respectful and quietly beautiful, with an atmosphere that felt genuinely special from start to finish. Held in November, with rain falling outside and candlelight glowing within, this wedding felt intimate, cosy and full of warmth.
A Military Wedding in the Somerset Countryside
Set near Yeovil, North Cadbury Court is a grand historic estate, but on this day it felt wonderfully welcoming and serene.
This was a military wedding with a strong sense of tradition and respect woven throughout the day. One of the most meaningful moments was the ceremony itself, which was performed by Peter’s father a deeply personal and emotional touch that made the vows feel even more special.
A Family Story That Continues
This wedding also felt incredibly personal for me to photograph. Holly is the cousin of a family whose weddings I’ve photographed multiple times before including two sisters and a brother so seeing so many familiar faces again felt like a continuation of a story rather than a standalone day.
There was a real sense of closeness among the guests, like everyone genuinely knew and cared for one another. That feeling carried through every part of the celebration.
Candlelight, Courtesy & a Beautifully Calm Atmosphere
One of the most memorable moments of the day came during dinner. As guests entered the dining hall softly lit with hundreds of candles everyone stood quietly by their chairs. No one sat down until Holly and Peter entered and took their seats.
It was such a simple gesture, but I’ve honestly never seen it at a wedding before. It felt incredibly polite, respectful and intentional and perfectly reflected the tone of the entire day.
The atmosphere in that room was unforgettable. Guests chatted gently, enjoyed the food and wine and took time to really be present with one another. No chaos, no rushing, no excess just warmth, conversation and connection.
A Cosy Winter Wedding Done Beautifully
Outside, the weather was wintry and wet. Inside, it was glowing, golden and calm. The contrast made everything feel even more special like stepping into a safe, cosy pocket of celebration away from the cold.
Despite the peaceful energy, there was still plenty of atmosphere. Laughter, smiles and quiet joy filled the space, creating a celebration that felt both grown-up and deeply heartfelt.
Couples Portraits & Quiet Moments Together
Holly and Peter were nothing but lovely to work with. They were happy to take their time during their couple portraits and photographing them together was such a joy. You could see how deeply in love they are natural, easy and completely at home with one another.
Those calm moments together felt like a perfect reflection of who they are as a couple.
Photographing Winter Weddings in England
This wedding was a reminder of how beautiful winter weddings in the UK can be. With the right setting, lighting and atmosphere, they offer something incredibly special intimate, cosy and full of soul.
I photographed the day with a documentary-led approach, focusing on mood, connection and the small gestures that made this wedding so meaningful.
